Juchitan - Tuktuks raging and an indoor meat market.

I ended up in Juchitan by accident and stayed at the Lopez Lena Palace from Thursday 2/27 until Sunday 3/1.

From Acapulco I rode east on highway 200 (not really south) and spent the night at the Hotel Yurimar in Puerto Escondido. Escondido was the logical stopping point because there didn’t really seem to be anywhere else that would provide variation of lodging. But, it did not speak to me like any other place where I’ve stayed. The hotel I stayed at was run by a nice family and it was comfortable but by morning it was time to get going again.

Another reason to stop in Puerto Escondido was I wanted to ride a great motorcycle road that connected Puerto Escondido to Oaxaca City. This was highway 131 and where it was newly paved it was wonderful and twisty. And where the pavement was old and knarly, it was slower, not so wonderful but still twisty. Great road overall. Last time I was here I rode down 175 from Oaxaca to Zipolite so this was new and different. I was heading north on highway 131.

Upon getting to Oaxaca the only place I could find for the night was pretty far from the zocalo. That night I walked around near my hotel El Arbor and sat by a church. There wasn’t much going on in this area and I was anxious to move on the following morning. But not before I would get stuck in some of the worst traffic I’ve encountered on this trip while trying to leave Oaxaca. And I was lost. And I was leaving late.

From Oaxaca I went east back towards the Pacific coast on wonderful twisty highway 190 and based upon a suggestion, I had reserved a room in Salina Cruz. I arrived at almost dusk and it was as windy as the rumors the precede it. Honestly, I didn’t like the city, I hated the wind and the motel I rode up to that I had reserved looked closed. I left at almost dark to head towards Juchitan, a city I stayed in once before on the previous trip.
